'拉普泽尔'这个名字其实是一种真实的蔬菜——'莴苣'（rampion，风铃草的一种），它的嫩叶和根从前常被人做成沙拉。整个故事就是从一个孕妇对这种蔬菜的强烈渴望开始的。这个'渴望某种植物→把孩子交出去'的情节非常古老：早在格林兄弟之前，意大利和法国就有类似的版本，只是那里孕妇想吃的是欧芹。还有一个有趣的细节：在格林兄弟 1812 年的初版里，拉普泽尔是天真地问女巫'为什么我的衣服越来越紧了'，才暴露了王子的到访——暗示她怀孕了；后来的版本才把这句改成我们现在读到的'你为什么爬得这么慢'，让故事更适合孩子。迪士尼 2010 年的《魔发奇缘》则把长发改成会发光的魔法头发，也去掉了王子失明的黑暗情节。读这个原版时，可以和孩子聊聊：一个人如果从小被'保护'得与世隔绝，会失去什么？
