The Wonderful Musician

A lonely musician plays his fiddle in the forest to pass the time. A wolf approaches wanting to learn, but the musician tricks him into getting his paws wedged in a cleft oak tree using a stone.

Bored again, the musician plays and attracts a fox. He tricks the fox by tying its paws to two bent-down hazel bushes, then releasing them so the fox is flung up and left hanging in the air.

A hare is attracted by the music. The musician ties a string round its neck and the other end to an aspen tree, tricking the hare into running circles until it is wound tight against the trunk.

The angry wolf frees himself, then helps the fox down. Together they rescue the hare. The three betrayed animals unite and hunt for the musician to seek revenge.

A poor woodcutter is enchanted by the music and becomes the human companion the musician sought. When the beasts attack, the woodcutter defends the musician with his axe, scaring them away.
