Doctor Know-all

Envious of a doctor's lifestyle, the poor peasant Crabb buys an ABC book and clothes, nailing a sign up over his door claiming to be 'Doctor Know-all'.

A rich lord, having had money stolen, hires 'Doctor Know-all' to solve the crime. Crabb insists his wife Grethe comes along, and they ride in the lord's carriage to the castle.

At the castle dinner, Crabb counts the dishes served to his wife, but the guilty servants mistake his counting for identifying them as the first, second, and third thieves, causing panic.

The lord tests Crabb to guess a covered dish. Crabb sighs his own name, 'Poor Crabb,' accidentally guessing the crabs inside. The terrified servants confess to him privately and offer a bribe for silence.

Crabb pretends to consult his book but accidentally terrifies a fifth servant hiding in the stove. He reveals the money's location without exposing the thieves, getting paid by both sides and becoming famous.
